Cottages of Quigley Point
This project is a series of interventions in abandoned farmhouses in the area of Donegal where I grew up, Quigley’s Point on the Inishowen Peninsula. It is common to read images of derelict country cottages in a nostalgic light, celebrating the simplicity of an older way of life with a romantic attachment to hearth and home. By disrupting the stillness of these interiors I hope to avoid such wistfulness and instead situate them in the present as I encounter them. Rather than treating these houses as artefacts, the redundant nature of the space allows for the freedom of interaction, and thus the opportunity to take a fresh approach to familiar subject matter.
